New Letterpress Studio

I have some very exciting news to share! On Monday 2nd July this place will be my new studio! My new press will be arriving and it will be craned in through a 2nd floor window. Exciting times ahead and I can't believe how lucky I am to be doing what I love. So keep your fingers crossed all goes well because I'll be squirming until my press is safely on the floor!
I've out grown my space and to be honest having some equipment in my home studio and the big presses in another place that I had to drive a 12 mile trip to was driving me nuts! I can't believe this place is just a few minutes walk from where I live and my mum use to work there in the owd days sewing slippers. We use to call it the slipper factory ;)
I couldn't even get all the space in my photo, there's six windows down each side and the sun works it way round from one end to the other which would have maximised light for the workers. Westbys Engineering Works was built in 1858. The workshop made Healds and Reeds for the many weavers mills in the town, now it will get a new lease of life!
So it will be all hands on deck Monday, literally with mop and buckets!

Lynsey - No private and just asked around the locals ;)
and your right there are so many old mills that could be converted into studios. If I hear of any I'll let you know but best just to ask around, most of the ones I saw were more for doing cars in though! Just got lucky!

  14. How exciting. Good luck with your move. Always a lot of hard work and quite stressful, but worth it in the end if you're going to a bigger and better place.

  15. How absolutely amazing - and not at all jealous...not one little tot!!!!! ;-)

Good luck with the move...it reminds me of our recent piano move from a third floor flat (with no lift) to our new abode 10 miles away!!!

One minor nick - but not bad considering.

Am loving your work - have just messaged you on Facebook to ask about a bespoke place-name commission.

  18. Great space, you are a lucky lady! If you are looking for a little something to fill some of that lovely space you might want to take a peek at the Vandercook SP20 currently listed on eBay. I'am not ready for a press of this size, but when I spotted it I thought of you... Can't wait to see your studio in full flow...
