I'm getting more and more orders for film packaging these days, I printed these double felt white sleeves and flat note cards for Hazel at Heartfelt Productions. who packaged everything in a film can and tied with branded ribbon.
Bespoke printed ribbon and stickers are a great way to enhance packaging and carry your brand all the way through your packaging. I love how all my lovely customers add their own personal touch to the CD or DVD sleeves I print, and I'm pretty sure the happy couple love them too!

New logo and letterpress packaging

Melanie, a local photographer, visited the studio to discuss a new logo and packaging. She felt her old logo was too masculine and wanted something softer (you can see the old logo on the black sticker in the box). I gave her logo a much softer look without being too girlie. Letterpress branded kraft CD sleeves and tags all printed in warm grey complete the look. Just shows with a little thought you can get the professional look for your packaging without a huge budget. Thanks Mel for the fabulous pics and supporting local business!

It's been a mad couple of months, finally catching up taking pics of what I've been up to... First is the lovely Leanne who came to me wanting some packaging for Blooming Lovely Films. I had an idea for business cards which we both loved, remember the vintage trimmer above, well finally it came in handy, turned out to be just the ticket! (sorry, couldn't resist ;)
Grab some popcorn and pay a visit to
Some feedback from Leanne about her cards
“Oh my god I love them! The business cards are the muts nuts! Thank you SO much jax you're a star! Xx”
Leanne you make me laugh :D Made me remember a long time ago I design some self promotion in the form of a bottle of red, you can see it HERE if you want a giggle, one day I might draw a better pair of grapes ;-)

sea shells

Double CD sleeves printed printed for Oksana in Switzerland, with a wash of what I call sea spray then over printed in warm grey. Note cards printed in a hint of sea spray, Why just a hint? Well it highlights the impression into soft cotton paper, a blind impression (no ink) would have looked a little lost! Thanks Oksana for trusting my judgement the colour x

brown paper tied up with string

Printed letterpress in two inks on tactile brown kraft. 300 CD cases, 150 folders and 300 mixed tags safely arrived in Ibiza for the lovely and talented Ana Lui who took these fabulous photos! I love the additional moo business card all printed with a different vintage camera they an extra dimension to the packaging! I'm a brown paper tied up with string kind a gal but all kraft can look too much sometimes, all for breaking it up with added texture and colour!
If your getting married in Ibiza then check out Ana Lui’s fabulous portfolio of work. She's been busy lately shooting a celeb for OK magazine, wonder who that was? Guess we'll just have to wait and see, I'm sure the pics will be amazing!
Also kudos to www.interlinkdirect.co.uk for getting a heavy 15 kilo parcel by road to Ibiza in 4 days, for half the price of Royal Mail! They come highly recommended! Now I wish I could stop singing this song ha ;-)

click click bang

Images copyright of ClickClickBang Photography

Small world! Donna, aka www.clickclickbangphotography.co.uk, found me through Etsy but only lives 10 mins away from my studio so got to meet the talented lady herself when she picked up her CD cases. I love how she has finished off  with a hand stamped tag with the couples wedding date, nice touch is a co-ordinating disc too. Donna describes herself as “...a zombie-loving, vintage-inspired, tattoo-getting, cupcake-eating, horror-film-watching mo'fo'tographer!”
See more of Donna’s work facebook page. A couple of my faves above, right Alexa Jay shot on film (complete with dust which I love)

finishing touches

Photographs courtesy of  www.neridaphelan.com.au
I get to meet some lovely people in my job and Nerida is one of them. These beautiful CD sleeves made there way over the pond to Australia. What I love most of all is when I've done my bit is to see how the final finishing touches are added. I love how Nerida has used a double ribbon in colours to co-ordinate with her branding, Simple yet very effective and will match perfectly with her buckram album.

Kraft pillow box packaging

Kraft large pillowbox packaging for the lovely Sharron at The Image Garden. Sharron wanted a box that she could enclose a memory stick instead of a CD. I was a little worried about light pink and green on brown kraft but with a little touch of opaque white ink instead of transparent white they came out perfect!
This was my first time printing with my new Chase Base with deep relief 1.52 plates from Lyme Bay Press. In reality you would print then die cut the shape but on short runs it more economically viable to print on pre cut boxes than have to pay for the cost of having a die cut made. The joy of letterpress, couldn’t do this with your modern printing methods! Though not being able to use registration marks can sometimes prove a pain the grid on the base made it simple, perfect registration and position!

Letterpress kraft CD case

Kraft CD cases are very popular! Here's one I did a couple of months ago for Paul Marbrook. After a couple of ink colour tests silver proved a hit! This is one that definitely looks better in the flesh so to speak. Hard to capture the shimmer in a photograph, gave up trying to get the impression shot!

Kraft CD cases and businesses cards

I had the pleasure of working with the talented Sarah Mason who was re-branding. With her website designed Sarah wanted some CD cases and stationery to match. The business cards were printed on 500 micron kraft which is a nice firm board and takes impression well. Sarah also wanted a tag so I suggested using elements of her logo which we printed on a 320g recycled flecked off white to compliment the kraft. She also came to photograph the press in action, I go off in my own world when printing so it was a little weird at first but Sarah soon put me at ease and we did laugh at her attempts to treadle!
You can see more images here on Sarah's blog, how lovely to see them photographed in natural surroundings. I love the tags swinging from the tree and how fabulous do the rest look on tree branches and amongst blue bells!

Letterpress CD cases for Jessica

A few weeks ago I printed some CD cases for Jessica, I just thought I would share the process...
Jessica already had a website and blog and wanted the packaging to compliment her branding, we worked together to get the final design that would work both for letterpress and the branding.
The following proof I take with with me to the workshop as it has all the info I need when printing from mixing the colours to positioning the plates on the press.
The artwork then has to be 100% black and split for colour to be made into plates, the solid band was a whopping 27cm long!
The plates ready to be locked up in position, that's the fiddley part!
The first colour to be printed is the dusky pink, note there's a bleed either side so there's a neat finish when they are folded. The warm grey goes on next which has to be spot on register. A circle in a circle, slightly off register and it will look just plain messy!
I always make up a couple of cases to make sure all looks perfect
Letterpress is best left simple to make the best impression.
Printed letterpress in 2 colours on 250g recycled white card
